Type a page title and meta description to see characters, pixel width and a search result preview. Google cuts results by pixel width, so the pixel numbers matter most.
Google cuts titles and snippets by pixel width to fit the screen. The 600px and 920px marks are guide values, not limits Google publishes, and the real result can look different.
| Field | Limit | Source | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Title | About 600px (guide value) | Google: title links, no fixed limit | Checked October 2026 |
| Meta description | About 920px (guide value) | Google: snippets, no fixed limit | Checked October 2026 |
Google cuts titles and snippets to fit the width of the screen, not after a set number of characters. Wide letters like W and M take more room than i or l, so two titles with the same character count can be cut at different points.
Google does not publish a limit. This checker uses common guide values: about 600 pixels for a title (20px Arial) and about 920 pixels for a description (14px Arial). Treat them as a guide, not a rule.
No. Google may write its own snippet from the page content when it fits the search better. A clear, accurate description makes it more likely that Google uses yours.
Google says there is no limit on title length, but long titles are cut in results. Put the main topic first so the part that shows still makes sense.
